The Cloudlifter CL-Z gives you all the ultra-clean gain of the original CL-1 and adds a High Pass Filter, two selectable gain settings, and the innovative Vari-Z knob for precise tone control using variable impedance. Match – or creatively mismatch – your microphone’s impedance to shape its tone effectively turning one mic into the sound of many mics.

Variable Impedance Control Variable impedance control - Vari-Z - to shape and contour the sound of your ribbon or dynamic microphone. Variable High-Pass Filtering Continuously variable high-pass filtering @ -6dB per octave works in tandem with the variable impedance control for even greater tonal shaping. Variable Gain Two gain settings - more & max - yield up to +25dB of ultra-clean gain for low output dynamic & ribbon microphones. Reduce Feedback The Cloudlifter allows you to cut through the mix on stage with increased gain before feedback. Premium Electronics The Cloudlifter's patented discrete JFET circuitry preserves the source's natural sound while keeping the direct audio path clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors.

It’s a little like an EQ, but without ANY phase alteration. Tighten, widen, and gently push the tone in the direction you like, and with a HPF that is continuously variable. These options are especially useful for controlling proximity effect with a Ribbon Mic as the clarity can easily be dialed. With Tube Condensers, the Z control works like magic to gently remove and tame sibilance without affecting phase.
