Precision Pattern Control
Unwanted leakage comes from all directions — DM20’s uniform cardioid pattern is engineered to provide more than 25 dB of rejection at 140 degrees and an average of over 16 dB across the back 180. A third-octave polar chart reveals just how consistent the performance is across all frequencies — brilliant, detailed pickup across the front and dramatic, even attenuation across the back.
Next-Generation Electronics
2nd-Gen Earthworks microphones draw only 6 mA of phantom power current, while increasing performance with all types of devices, including transformer-based preamps and splits. Hot-plugging (connecting microphones with phantom power already on) can result in spikes with enough power to damage microphones, preamps and other equipment. While it is always recommended enabling phantom power after connecting microphones, it can be difficult or even impossible to consistently avoid hot-plugging in modern recording, streaming and live performance workflows, where timelines are tight and phantom power is often enabled when the session file is loaded, well before the microphones are plugged in. 2nd-Gen Earthworks microphones have been hardened with power handling to exceed anything normally experienced with even the largest touring consoles and stageboxes.
RM2 Drum Rim Mount
RM2 is a low-profile, tour-quality solution for securely mounting DM20 Gen 2 to the rim of snare drums and toms, eliminating the need for mic stands. RM2 is engineered specifically for DM20 Gen 2, to provide an optimal starting point for fine position adjustment using the microphone’s gooseneck and height in the mic clip. Industry-leading compatibility with a wide variety of metal drum hoop types and suspension mounts.
The Speed of Sound
The impulse response is fast and clean. The frequency response is flat and extended. DM20 Gen 2 doesn’t sound like a microphone — it sounds like your drum, only bigger.
